Motor-driven engineering, and what that means when it fails
LG builds its appliances around its own motors and compressors: direct-drive washers with no belt, linear inverter compressors in the refrigerators, inverter drives in the dishwashers. When everything is working, that produces quiet, efficient appliances with fewer moving parts than the alternatives.
When something does fail, the diagnosis has to follow the same logic. An LG refrigerator that has stopped cooling is not automatically a dead appliance — and before anything else happens, it is worth knowing whether the compressor is still inside its manufacturer warranty, because on many LG models that cover runs to ten years.
Bodewell Appliance Repair services LG across California and Florida: InstaView and Craft Ice refrigeration, LG STUDIO and SIGNATURE built-ins, ranges and cooktops, QuadWash dishwashers, front-load and top-load laundry and WashTower stacks.

LG Appliances We Repair
LG spans mainstream and built-in premium equipment, and we cover both:
- French-door and side-by-side refrigerators — InstaView, Door-in-Door and counter-depth models with Craft Ice
- LG STUDIO and SIGNATURE refrigeration — built-in columns and panel-ready installations
- Front-load washers — direct-drive TurboWash and AI DD models
- Top-load washers — impeller and agitator models with direct-drive motors
- Dryers — electric, gas and ventless heat-pump models
- WashTower stacked laundry — single-unit washer and dryer stacks
- Dishwashers — QuadWash and TrueSteam models, front-control and fully integrated
- Ranges and cooktops — ProBake convection, induction, gas and electric, slide-in and freestanding
- Wall ovens and over-range microwaves
- Wine cellars and beverage centres — SIGNATURE and undercounter units
Cooling goes to refrigerator and freezer repair, Craft Ice and dispenser faults to ice maker repair, laundry to washer repair and dryer repair, cleaning to dishwasher repair, cooking to range and oven repair and wine storage to wine cooler repair.
What LG Owners Usually Call About
| What you notice | What it usually points to |
|---|---|
| Refrigerator stopped cooling, freezer too | Sealed system or compressor — check the warranty first |
| Craft Ice production stopped | Fill valve, filter, ice-maker assembly or freezer temperature |
| Washer stops with OE or an error code | Drain pump, filter or hose restriction |
| Washer shows UE and will not spin out | Load balance, suspension or rotor position sensing |
| Dishwasher stops with a leak code | Base sensor triggered by a slow internal leak |
| Dryer runs long on a ventless model | Condenser, filters or heat-pump circuit |
| Oven bakes unevenly with ProBake convection | Convection motor, element or airflow |
LG codes are precise and worth reporting when you book — OE, UE, IE, LE and the rest each narrow the fault before anyone arrives.
LG Faults We See Most Often
Refrigerators That Stop Cooling Entirely
When both compartments go warm together on an LG, the sealed system is the first candidate. This is one of the few faults where the most useful thing a service company can do is check your warranty position before quoting a repair — and we do that as a matter of course.
Common causes
- linear compressor no longer starting or pumping
- inverter or start relay fault
- sealed-system restriction or leak
- condenser fan seized or restricted
- main control board fault
- temperature sensing fault reporting the wrong state
Craft Ice and Dispenser Systems
The Craft Ice system produces slow-melting spheres in a second compartment, and it adds hardware that a conventional ice maker does not have. Most production faults are still on the water side, but the mould and harvest hardware are worth checking properly.
Common causes
- water filter overdue or fill valve failing
- supply pressure below specification
- ice-maker assembly or mould heater fault
- freezer temperature above the ice-making threshold
- ice bin auger jammed with clumped ice
- dispenser chute solenoid or door sticking
Direct-Drive Laundry With Drain and Balance Codes
OE and UE are the two codes we see most on LG washers, and neither usually means a failed motor. The direct-drive design senses drum position electronically, so drainage and suspension are what decide whether a spin completes.
Common causes
- drain pump filter blocked with debris
- drain hose kinked or standpipe restricted
- suspension rods or dampers worn
- rotor position sensor or hall sensor fault
- machine not level, especially on a pedestal or WashTower
- load distribution in a large drum
Parts Matched to Your LG Model
LG parts are well supported and quick to obtain for current and recent models, which keeps most repairs economic. Sealed-system components are the exception in one respect: many LG refrigerators carry an extended manufacturer warranty on the compressor, and that is worth establishing before any repair is authorised. We check it against the model and serial number and tell you what we find, even when the answer means we are not the ones doing the work.
Why Bodewell for LG Repair
The most valuable thing on an LG call is often information: which code means what, whether the compressor is covered, and whether the fault in front of us is a twenty-dollar filter or a sealed-system job. We give you that before you spend anything.
- compressor warranty position checked before a repair is quoted
- error codes verified at the circuit rather than taken at face value
- drainage, suspension and levelling tested before parts are replaced
- manufacturer-specified parts matched to model and serial
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: My LG refrigerator has stopped cooling. Is the compressor covered?
A: Many LG models carry an extended manufacturer warranty on the linear compressor, commonly ten years on the part. We check your model and serial number and tell you where you stand before quoting anything — including when the right answer is to go through LG rather than through us.
Q: What does the OE code on my washer mean?
A: The machine could not drain within the expected time. Nine times out of ten that is the drain pump filter, a kinked hose or a restricted standpipe rather than a failed pump.
Q: Craft Ice has stopped producing. Is the whole ice maker gone?
A: Usually not. Water supply, filter condition and freezer temperature account for most of these calls, and they are checked before any assembly is condemned.
Q: Do you service the WashTower?
A: Yes. The stacked unit is serviced in place in most cases — tell us the installation when you book so the right access time is allowed.
